OK - this is my book - Mosman Meanders & foreshore flavours

Hi Babyboomers
Mosman Meanders & foreshore flavours is a coffee table book

Ok this is my book.  It's taken 2 years to write and it's been an amazing learning curve in so many ways.  I thought you might like to know what else I do with my time when I'm not blogging.

Mosman Meanders and foreshore flavours has been described as aMust have gift'Pages & Pages, after the book’s successful launch in December 2012.  It’s worth considering as a gift, with Mothers Day coming up as it will appeal to, families, residents and ex-patriots as a reference or a memento.

It’s a photographic style coffee table book, featuring  walks along the magnificent foreshores between Mosman and the Spit, and contains reference to the rich history and cultural heritage of the area.   Bushland walking tracks provide opportunities to view major Sydney icons such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as well as some of the newly opened, navigational and maritime sites.   The book lists casual food and cafe destinations with recipes for readers to experience themselves.

You can pick up a copy  through local bookstores and some local cafes, or purchase online at http://mosmanmeanders.blogspot.com.au .  This blog link will tell you more about the book which has proven popular, through the Pages & Pages on-line brochure, with expatriates  of Mosman.

My journey has released me from the spectre of retirement and since I'm now addicted to writing, there is a new book following of course.
This one is going to be about retirement or more correctly about non-retirement, which will include interesting insights into this period of our lives.
Cheers C

Priorities and Confessions of a gym dropout

Clara is now a gym drop-out and
prefers other  activities

Dear Babyboomers
Now a self-confessed 'Gym Dropout' since last year, I adopted the idea of 'Exercise with a Purpose' - the concept being that if you have places you need to go, then walk there, or spend time in the garden sweeping  paths etc.  Cutting the hedge, for example, is a great way to exercise the dreaded upper arms while working in the garden definitely helps to restore positive mental equilibrium. I recall one of Jane Fonda's exercise tapes had one exercise called "PULL WEEDS ! PULL WEEDS! - she was always so urgent in her requests so I did as I was told.

I am currently writing a book about walks in my area so this also provides many opportunities to get out there and exercise / walk with a purpose along with regular morning walks. Then the 10 minutes of additional exercise such as some pelvic floor / abdomen stuff, some resistance activities using a stretchy car octopus, and a few basic moves using 2kg / 4lb weights.

All that is good. But - while I'm in confession mode - I do get up early, to walk with G. I really really really want to, but sometimes I really really really really want just a few more precious lifesaving minutes in foggy sleep. Fortunately for me, G heaps disappointment upon me so being an approval seeker, I do my best. However, with daylight saving ending soon, it is going to be darker, colder, harder. Follow my progress!  Re the 10 minutes exercise - you know what - it doesn't always happen. One exercise I do religiously, however, redeems me slightly - ie in waiting for the shower to heat up - with hands behind you grasping the edge of the bath, fingers pointing forward, 20 strong knee bends with pelvic awareness; this  exercises many essential muscles all at the one time, including the dreaded upper arms I keep referring to. This is my naked truth! And the good part is I am still asleep.

A new mantra - ie "I'm going to walk before I talk, jog before I blog and stretch before I sit," because for me, it's all about routine and priorities.
Clara
ps - It would be great to hear what works for you.

Nature Walk in Mosman

Hi there Babyboomers
'Exercise with a Purpose' evolved as a result of my being a Gym Dropout. This walk is in Mosman, but it doesn't matter where it is, 'Exercise with a Purpose' is a fabulous concept.  And you never know where it will lead you!!!!!

'Exercising with a purpose,' yesterday included a bush walk to Cobblers Beach. Following our trusty guide, written by Rotarians, in 1981, we set off from the "Sports Pavillian, stopped to admire the view of Middle Harbour, then wound our way through the bush to Cobblers Beach. Still quite natural with minimum shade, it is a peaceful spot, ideal for children and when the cold south wind blows."

Hmmmmm - I don't think that Mr Brian Leckey and Mr Alan Kendall of Mosman Council and his wife who did much car driving and typing, had been there recently.

A fabulous walk, including fortifications for Middle Head and early bush flowers - however I suggest you leave the children at home!  Clara
